Stand and Pray

February 24, 2019 Speaker: Josh Tingler Series: One in Christ

Passage: Ephesians 6:10–6:24

"As if he had said, 'You have no right to reply, that you have not the ability; for all that I require of you is, be strong in the Lord.'" (Calvin) This text identifies our enemies, our assignment, and our armor. We sometimes think of the spiritual and physical worlds as distinct realities with very little overlap. Earth now, heaven later. Paul, on the other hand, sees a deep connection between physical and spiritual realities - in fact, he sees one reality that includes both physical and spiritual aspects. In this world, God's world, we have a simple but difficult command: Stand. Thankfully, we have "the strength of the Lord's might."

Discussion Questions:

  1. What part of the text or sermon had the greatest impact on you? Where were you most encouraged, intrigued, challenged?

  2. Discuss the six pieces of armor (the main points, that is, not the military specifics) and how they help us stand against the devil’s attack. Where are you weakest right now?

  3. What are some of the ways that the devil “schemes” against believers today?

  4. Pray verse 19 for your current elders, your next lead pastor, and those your church is sending as missionaries.

  5. What has been the greatest lesson (or two) that your have learned from the book of Ephesians?

  6. How do verses 23-24 help sum up the whole letter? Discuss the connections between those verses and the main teachings of Ephesians.
