OP:THX (Operation Thanks) is a mission effort of the Church at Martinsburg to partner with local community organizations to love our city and serve our neighbors.
The City of Martinsburg is a rapidly growing city with an increasing population living in poverty, some of whom are unemployed or are underemployed. OP:THX is a wonderful opportunity for us to impact our community by providing meals for the hungry and partner with other local organizations to serve the community.
How many frozen turkeys are needed?
Our goal for 2019 is 400 frozen turkeys but we will find more homes for turkeys when we surpass this goal. Since OP:THX began in 2009, our church has provided 4,356 turkeys to local families in need.
When/Where is OP:THX?
It is Saturday, November 23rd. We gather at 7:30am in the 50 Monroe Parking lot.
What happens on OP:THX day?
A lot happens on OP:THX day! We receive all the frozen turkeys, tag them for distribution, load them in trucks for delivery, go to delivery sites, and unload turkeys for our community partners. We do all this while enjoying warm drinks, goodies, and fellowship with our faith family.
How do I get involved and assist with OP:THX?
Initially you can help by pledging to provide frozen turkeys. Whether you can afford to give 1 or 50, every turkey helps a family in need. Please tell your community group leader how many turkeys you are pledging. If you’re not currently involved in a group, please contact us at (304) 596-9330.
Second, join with your community group to serve your immediate community by providing a home for at least one frozen turkey in a creative way.
How do we deliver all these turkeys?
We load the turkeys in the back of pickup trucks and take them to area charities.
What charities help us distribute the frozen turkeys?
The church has joined with several area charities including:
⧫ CCAP Loaves and Fishes
⧫ Rescue Mission
⧫ The Gardens
⧫ Closet of Hope, Westview Baptist Church
⧫ Other charities as we gather more turkeys
